Most often cats may get worms and they began to show many signs and symptoms. These worms can be dangerous for the cats, so if your cat is infected you should immediately take it to a veterinarian and give proper treatment. Some of the most common types of worms found in cats are tapeworms, hookworms, roundworms, heart worms, stomach worms etc.
Tapeworms are generally found in the intestines of cats. Their size range from four to twenty eight inches in length. These worms gets attached to the lining of the intestine and feeds off all the nutrients from the food that the animal consumes.Tape worms look like rice grains and can be found around the cat’s anus. Symptoms of tape worms include vomiting and weight loss in the pet.
Hookworms are relatively small and are less than an inch long. They also get attached to the intestinal walls of the cat and feeds on the blood and the nutrients. It can lead to intestinal bleeding, anemia and can cause even death. The common symptoms of hookworms are inability to gain or lose weight, diarrhea, presence of blood in stools, coughing, skin irritation etc.
Roundworms are normally four inches long and they are white in color and look like spaghetti noodles. The common symptoms of roundworms in cats are inability to gain or lose weight, dull fur, distended belly, coughing and vomiting.
Heart worms are parasitic worms living in the pulmonary arteries, lungs & hearts of cats. They are long annd white in color. It is very dangerous for the cats and can even lead to death. The common symptoms of heart worms are coughing, vomiting, breathing problems, weight loss, anorexia etc.
Stomach worms usually live in a cat’s stomach and it usually get inside the cat’s stomach if it ingests the vomits of an infected animal. The common symptoms of stomach worms are vomiting, loss of appetite, weight loss, malnutrition etc. It can even lead to a severe inflammation of the abdominal cavity which is very dangerous for the cat.
Whip worms are another parasite that get inside the cat’s body if it ingests the feces of an infected animal. These worms will cause mucus-covered stools and results in several other digestive problems.
